Duncan Saunders graduated from the University of Southampton with a degree in Ship Science in 1992. Several years spent refitting 35m high speed ferries in Southampton was followed by the start of his small craft surveying career in Gosport in 1994. Whilst in Gosport experience was gained with all manner of craft from small sailing dinghies right up to 95m Superyachts. At this time Duncan passed the Interntional Institute of Marine Surveyors Diploma in Marine Surveying and became a full Member of the IIMS. In 2000 Duncan moved to Hamble where he has continued his surveying and gained experience of insurance claim work and the RCD. Duncan is a Full Member of the Yacht Designers and Surveyors Association. Now experienced in all aspects of survey, SCV, RCD, Insurance Claim and Expert Witness work Duncan’s technical background compliments Hugos skills perfectly.

Hugo Morgan-Harris started his career in the marine industry at an early age. At 16 he started a five year apprenticeship at a historic boatyard in the south coast. At the yard Hugo carried out restoration and repair work of classic yachts. The yard was also well known for its traditional style in new build bespoke sailing and motor yachts. Since serving his apprenticeship Hugo carried on his career in boat building for a further five years being involved in composite construction of a string of successful racing yachts and carrying out day to day repairs and maintenance onboard modern production yachts and motor boats. This provided him with a wide knowledge of marine craft and materials within the marine sector, which would be the basis of his career as a surveyor. Following Hugo’s hand’s on experience over ten years Hugo attended Southampton Institute and successfully completed the surveying module of the three year degree course. At this time in 1999 he joined the Yacht Designers & Surveyors Association and set up as a self employed surveyor. After a year running his own surveying practice Hugo joined a south coast surveying team where within two and a half years gained the title of principal surveyor. In 2003 Hugo was upgraded to an associate member of the YDSA and was nominated to receive the surveyor of the year award “Leslie Oliver Trophy”. In 2004 Hugo successfully gained a diploma in small craft surveying and subsequently became a member of the International Institute of marine Surveyors. Since this time Hugo has also obtained his Ultrasound Level 1 & 2 Certificates for carrying out NDT Ultrasound inspections.  His level 2 course was undertaken at the International School of Areospace NDT Ltd whereby many of the techniques have been adobted for marine inspections on FRP structures. Hugo is now a Full Member of the YDSA.

Having been a part of the surveying team for four and a half years, Hugo along with his then colleague Duncan Saunders, decided to branch out and created ‘Saunders Morgan Harris Ltd’ Consulting Marine Surveyors in June of 2005.
